What is the Nudgee Library?
"A library is not a luxury but one of the necessities of life."
- Henry Ward Beecher
The Library supports the spiritual, social and teaching and learning programs of the Nudgee Community.
The Library staff and services model the Gospel values embedded in the College's Missions statement, the Edmund Rice Education Statement and Edmund Rice Values. This is demonstrated by providing equity of access to information for all students and by maintaining a fair and just environment to ensure cultural diversity and educational differences are met.
The Library actively supports and promotes information literacy through its services and programs both within the College and the wider school community. The Library web page provides a gateway to resources for students, staff and parents. The Library provides information skills programs to assist students to manage information and to transform it into knowledge. By developing lifelong learning skills, students are able to discriminate in their use of data from multiple sources, for specific purposes.
Authentic student-centred learning is supported. The Library empowers each student to understand and use technology in a discerning and critical way, to effectively access, process and communicate information in a global society whose knowledge base is expanding exponentially.
The Library supports and provides direction for productive pedagogies through resource based learning. Individual needs are met by supporting different learning strategies and styles. The Library works collaboratively with teachers to ensure that ICTs, information literacy skills and higher order thinking skills are embedded.
Access through subscription to a range of online electronic databases extends the diverse range of print and digital resources that reflects the Curriculum and caters for students' learning needs and styles.
The Library is instrumental in providing technology to promote and enhance learning and teaching experiences. It is equipped with multi purpose research areas, a theatrette with multi media facilities, reading and research areas and an extensive collection of digital and print resources. The Library catalogue is web based and therefore can be readily accessed via the internet within and outside the College.
The Library provides a welcoming and stimulating environment where the love of reading and creative literary pursuits can be fostered within the framework of authentic experiences.
